goodbye substack, hello old school newsletter

Testing, testing... hello! If you’re reading this, it’s because at some point in time, you subscribed or supported me on sites like Substack or Gumroad... but due to these platforms' fiscal support and/or condoning of far right politics & policies, I’ve decided to close up shop and open my own.

So welcome to my new newsletter:

e-mails 2-3 times per year to round up bigger announcements -- like my new book!)

If you were always just in it for the art, you can find all of my free downloadable resources, as well as tangible prints, shirts, zines, stickers, and more in my new store.

Thanks to orders so far this year, I've been able to send off about $200 to orgs like the Sameer Project, the National Indigenous Women's Resource Center, and my local land trust, the Tongva Taraxat Paxaavxa Conservancy.

I also want to remind folks that I'm part of the Cartoonists United Aid Drive that lets you exchange donation receipts for digital downloads from me in three easy steps:

Since my last newsletter in 2024, much has happened, but the biggest news has been that:

1. I ended things with the publisher of COOK LIKE YOUR ANCESTORS and pulled the books off of the shelves. (You can read about why in this public statement from the Silver Sprocket Artist Collective.)

There are about 30 copies left for sale in my store. I have high hopes of finding a new home for the book, but once these copies are gone, that's it for this version forever!

2. I published my second book, A Quick & Easy Guide to Healthy Relationships!

If you like drama, social etiquette guides, and looking at cute lil' animals, anyone at least 11 or 12 years old would enjoy it! Also, it's just $10, which is like $1 in this economy.

3. I've put out a lot of new work, (now hosted on my shiny new website) but mostly I've had to pause everything to focus on my next book, GO BACK & GET IT:

If you're particularly interested in what goes into the pitching, creation, and publishing of a graphic novel, my patreon is where it's at. It's also where I post more art most often, is the only place to find my 18+ work, and is currently mostly dedicated to bi-monthly behind-the-scenes updates and previews of this upcoming book.

4. Otherwise, I've been getting back to my gardening roots in helping to cultivate an all-volunteer org, All Power Community Growers. We're working to bring political and plant education, access, and empowerment to our very underserved LA neighborhoods. We've put on five events so far, and host monthly community meetings to connect with folks & teach people garden basics. If you're local, come through sometime!
